About Us

Welcome To Church of Christ Mile 4, Port Harcourt

The Church of Christ is one body, that is universal in establishment with local congregations across the globe. The church was established in 33AD in the city of Jerusalem. This was talked about as prophecies in Isa. 2:2-3, Mic. 4:1-4; Zech. 1:16 and were fulfilled on the Pentecost day. (Acts 2:1-4), witnessed by people of many nations.

Structurally, the church has Christ as the head. As He built (Matt. 16:18), purchased the church with His blood and became the founder of the church (Acts 20:28), 1 Cor. 3:11. By this sacrifice of His blood, Christ became the Saviour of the body, the church (Eph. 5:23). The local congregations are led, governed  and administered by Bishops (also called Elders and Pastors) and Deacons (those that serve the local church based on the directives of the Bishops), who are ordained by the Evangelist of the congregation given their qualifications as contained in the word of God. (1 Tim. 3:1-11; Tit. 1:5-8)

The Church of Christ, Mile 4 Rumueme, Port Harcourt is one of such local congregations established to propagate the gospel of Christ within her environs and beyond. What We Believe

Faith in God
We believe in the existence of the loving God who is the source of all creations. He has created us to find our eternal destiny in relationship and to worship Him and no other god. John 14:1; Heb. 11:6.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible is our inspired source profitable for our learning about God, reproving and correcting us in righteousness that equips and furnishes us unto all good works written by men who were led by the Holy Spirit of God. 2 Tim. 3:16-17.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is the free gift of God that has been made available to all as a result of Jesus’ death on the cross of Calvary. Salvation is available to all who believe and put their trust in Christ as Saviour and not for a selected few. Matt. 16:15; Mark 16:16; Rom. 1:16, 18.
Baptism
We believe baptism is an important stage of obedience to God by faith based on one’s confession of Jesus Christ as the son of God for the washing away or remission of sins and for admission into His body, the church Acts 2:38; Rom. 6:3-5. We are devoted to teaching and encouraging believers to be immersed in water and this is done only to people of the age of accountability and not to children. No one is compelled or subjected to class duration before baptism rather, the individual decides based on conviction of his/her sinful state and danger. Acts 8:26-40; 2:41.
Worship
We worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). This worship involves praising God with our lips from hearts of gratitude (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16; Heb. 13:15; E.g. Acts 2:47). Note that in the New Testament worship neither Christ nor the Apostles, nor the early church used instruments like drums, bands, cymbals, guitars, flutes, horns, etc to praise God (Ps. 150:6). We offer prayers to God to communicate our heart desires to Him (Acts 2:42). These do not include asking for death or misfortune of anyone (Matt. 5:43-45) no matter how much they have wronged us (Rom. 12:17-21) (1 Thess. 5:17).
